Cosmetic & Restorative Dentistry
At Mission Creek Dental, we are inspired by how our patient’s lives are changed and improved when we give them the smile they have always dreamed of. We take the approach of assessing patient’s facial features and natural tooth form to create veneers or crowns that complement the face and do not overpower the existing features. We do not want to create smiles that look artificial; instead we want our patient’s smiles to be radiant and natural.
Cosmetic dentistry is exciting because it can truly enhance a person’s life. Even though cosmetic dentistry is elective and often not health related, benefits can be as far reaching as improving self-confidence, improving job prospects, and giving a person a more youthful appearance. Cosmetic dentistry is used for correcting, or concealing various concerns including stains, misshapen teeth, proportionately small teeth, chips, cracks, gapped teeth, and ragged gum lines, that often diminish a person’s self-confidence in his or her smile. Most patients do not enjoy coming in for a filling, however, getting a smile make-over or enhancement can be life transforming. Dr. Kim loves making people excited by the transformation of their smile.
Clear aligners (Invisalign)
Problems with how the teeth come together (malocclusion) – affects roughly 56% of the population. Generally, braces and clear aligners are associated with straightening teeth and improving esthetics. While this is an important outcome for many patients – it is not the whole picture. Many functional issues with how teeth come together are less evident and not commonly associated with aligning teeth. Proper tooth alignment provides both functional and aesthetic benefits.
Crowns
A dental crown (commonly known as a cap) is a dental restoration that replaces the outer surface of your tooth with ceramic material and/or gold. It is commonly used to restore a tooth when it is too damaged to support a filling or only. A crown will strengthen your tooth, improve its colour and restore it to an ideal shape to improve your bite and smile.
Veneers & Crowns
Porcelain veneers are a great option for creating a beautiful smile and disguising teeth that have broken, chipped or discoloured over time. Veneers are also a great solution for patients who are unhappy with the shape or length of their teeth. A veneer is a thin layer of material usually made from porcelain that is custom made to match the shape and colour that best suits the teeth then bonded to existing tooth structure. A veneer is generally used to improve the aesthetics of a tooth or to protect the tooth from damage and can often be an alternative to crowns. The material used is durable but may need to be replaced in the future.
Composite Restorations
Composite (tooth coloured) fillings are used to restore a tooth that has decay, fractures, or cracks. Composites and silver amalgams are materials that are used for dental restoration. Since composite fillings come in a variety of shades they can be easily matched to the colour of the existing teeth and are more aesthetically pleasing for anterior teeth. The treatment is usually placed in one appointment and you may experience sensitivity to hot and cold when the composite fillings are first placed. As with most dental filling material there are advantages and disadvantages. You will be able to discuss with your dentist the option that best suits you.
Teeth Whitening
A whiter, brighter smile is beautiful – it can help you feel better about yourself and make a memorable impression. Culprits such as coffee, tea and red wine, as well as the aging process can stain and darken your teeth. We will make custom fit whitening trays that you can use during the day or night with a whitening gel that will remove stubborn stains from teeth and brighten your smile.
Dental Implants
Implants are an excellent dental solution for replacing lost or extracted teeth and overall, create a functional and natural look. Implants enhance your smile as well as your lifestyle. Dental implants are among the most common treatment alternative for missing, broken, or cracked teeth. Dental implants are an excellent option for ensuring proper tooth and chewing function and completing your smile. They can replace a singular tooth or multiple teeth. Miniature dental implants can be placed with one visit.
Dental implants anchor a prosthetic tooth (Crown) within the jawbone, and under the gums. Implants can last for a lifetime when given appropriate preventative dental maintenance. Most importantly, because of their established durability, dental implants provide a long-lasting dental health solution. Implants are so integrative and low maintenance, that patients often forget they even have them as the years go by.
Quality aesthetic implants are created from titanium but some implants are composed of metallic, ceramic or biocompatible materials such as zirconia, stainless steel and titanium alloy. Implants are firmly anchored in the mouth, and for this reason, do not impact speech. In contrast to bridges, dental implants do not require adjustments to adjacent teeth and are therefore less invasive. After implants are placed and a Crown is attached, the new ‘tooth’ is fully operational and looks just like a natural tooth.
Whether replacing one tooth or a full arch, implants provide many advantages over other tooth replacement alternatives. They are a suitable choice, if an adult has healthy gums, and there’s enough healthy bone in the jaw to hold the implant. While dental implants are a significant financial investment, flexible funding alternatives can be arranged. Please call us for a no obligation consult to see if implants are the right option for you.
